German headphone brand beyerdynamic is debuting the latest generation of its premium studio headphones, the closed-back DT 1770 PRO MKII and the open-back DT 1990 PRO MKII. Designed for more comfortable use, the new headphones offer improved sound quality thanks to the newly developed TESLA.45 dynamic driver. These flagship headphones bring more flexibility to music professionals.
The DT 1770 PRO MKII and DT 1990 PRO MKII were designed with flexibility and sound quality in mind. With a new impedance of 30 Ω, the headphones are highly adaptable to a wide range of playback devices without compromising sound quality.

At the heart of the DT 1770 PRO MKII and DT 1990 PRO MKII is the TESLA.45 driver, developed and manufactured at beyerdynamic’s headquarters in Heilbronn. The advanced driver diaphragm cuts distortion and sharpens response, preventing ear fatigue during long recording sessions and delivering clearer sound compared to its predecessor.
The driver membrane is made of high performance PEEK polymer for a deep and precise bass, while a lighter voice coil made of aluminum coated copper wire serves for a more refined treble. Each driver is thoroughly tested multiple times during production to ensure sound quality is consistently high.
The DT 1770 PRO MKII and DT 1990 PRO MKII models have low total harmonic distortion for a cleaner and more accurate signal. Compared to the previous model, the frequency response is smoother in the upper mids and the higher frequencies are more balanced, making it a versatile tool for any studio. The closed-back design also suppresses background noise and reduces microphone leakage, making them ideal for focused work and vocals.
Designed for mixing, mastering and editing, the DT 1990 PRO MKII headphones produce a natural and wide soundstage with accurate bass response, even in the lowest octaves, according to beyerdynamic. With the DT 1990 PRO MKII, highs were reduced to 8kHz, retaining detailed highs from 10kHz, helping users avoid critical mixing errors. The treble has also been scaled down slightly from the previous model for a more balanced sound profile.

Both models feature fully replaceable headbands and covers, ensuring the headphones remain useful for years to come.
The DT 1770 PRO MKII is equipped with a selection of leather and velor ear pads. The DT 1990 PRO MKII comes with two different types of velor ear pads. One is a “Producing Velor” that gives a fuller and more exciting sound thanks to a slight bass boost. The company claims this helps speed up the creation process before it goes into the mix. Next is a “Mixing & Mastering Velor”, which provides a more analytical sound for making final mixing decisions.
